Social Media is not a fad. How can it be? Fads come and go. This isnt a temporary state. We wont someday realize where we are and "go back" to normal. This wave...this movement...this evolution...will only go forward. I dont think we can fathom where it will lead...how instant it will make every aspect of life. Our young people do not know the difference...this IS reality. Wikipedia IS the encyclopedia. Papers are written and submitted online. Communication is THIS. Do I like it? Yes, most of the time. What I like is the "community" of it...and keeping in touch with many at once, having info at my fingertips, seeing life as it happens. What I miss is "the personal"...one on one. Books that smell good, last a long time and become your friends..as opposed to words on a screen easily deleted. A string of words meant to be conversation instead of a face to face encounter over lunch. A teacher that submits remarks, even gives direction over the internet while I sit in my pajamas eating cornflakes...instead of a classroom, relating to an instructors personality...basking in whatever wisdom he/she is sharing. We have come far...and our ideas, creativity, intellect...are out there. We continue to grow and learn and evolve at increasing speed. But do we speed past one another in the process...and miss the "human-ess" of life? I love it and loathe it..all in one breath.(hmm..I didnt talk about business did I?)
