In sales, when I take ownership of the results, I tend to give a bit more effort, make a few more calls, put together a few more proposals, take responsibility for the satisfaction of the client - which includes making decisions that may be outside the box. Incidentally, ownership is good for everyone: when people own homes, neighborhoods are better maintained; when a community takes ownership of a school through a PTO, students, teachers, administration and the community benefit; when people take ownership of health insurance, the doctors, patients and health company wins; when a sales person takes ownership of his results, everyone wins.
