How Often Do You Get the Chance to Have Your Eyes Opened?

"How often do you get the chance to have your eyes opened...I mean really opened?" asks Natalie Dormer as she begins to narrate a true travel story that is quite beautiful, and may make you think differently!

In this true travel story, Natalie Dormer tells of a trip manager who leads a group through the winding back roads of Rome to St. Peter’s Basilica.  As they get ready to return to the hotel, the trip manager pretends he doesn't remember how to get back, and asks those in the group which of them could lead them back. None of them could, except for one person...a nearly blind girl named Judy who volunteered, "I can do it!".  "We all thought she was joking, too!" says Natalie Dormer as she narrates the story. "No, seriously, I can take us all back", says Judy. Dormer continues, "So we turned and piled behind her as she led us through the maze of winding streets."

"Someone asked Judy, 'How are you doing this? How can you possibly remember the way you came?'" Judy said, "I just know. Feel how cool and beautiful the air is? We're by the fountain. This is where we turn left."

This strikes me because of the vivid description of how this nearly blind girl, Judy, was able to 'see' so many things that the others didn't see. On the return trip, Judy leads and says, "I’m smelling freshly baked bread. We turned right by this bakery. And this is the cafe we passed by. I recognize the sound of that coffee machine." The sounds, smells, and touch of the walls helped her see so vividly!  At every turn, the things that the travelers hadn't focused on before revealed themselves like hidden gems.

Many times in a sales environment, we 'see' what we want to see. For example, in my experience, I have looked through my database consisting of certain prospects, and 'envisioned' what kind of services they may need, even before I make the call.  There's time I am quite certain I'm taking into account everything my client needs or wants, but often I miss things because I'm not 'seeing' them.  There are so many senses to enlist when speaking with a client: taste, smell, audible cues and appropriate touch which can enable me to help them envision things that they may have never imagined. 'Seeing' can explode possibilities -- and results!

I think this motivational video could possibly be tailored for different organizations, with the permission of Contiki (I can get the permission on your behalf). This true story could help an organization to begin to identify how to get back to the starting point, and begin to envision different results.
