This is one of Dick's Sporting Goods motivational videos telling a remarkable short story of a mentoring relationship from the big brother to his little brother, revolving around a baseball glove.
The story opens on Christmas morning with two young boys opening gifts; one is about two years older than the other. Year after year, the little brother watches and imitates everything that his big brother does in playing baseball,as the ball boy, in reflecting his temperament after wins and losses, even in chewing mouthfuls of sun flower seeds!
Then one Christmas, his big brother gives the little brother the gift of a baseball glove. And even with snowfall on an early Christmas morning, the boys are excited about running outside and throwing the ball, the younger boy catching it with his new glove.
In much the same way, mentoring takes place in the corporate world. Rookies watch the moves of their more experienced colleagues on sales calls, in temperament, even in what they eat! This is an emotionally moving example of the power of good mentoring, and the pleasure of a great gift!
