"Dedication, loyalty, friendship. The choices we make reveal the true nature of our character", says the narrarator on this short spot. This is one of those surprise motivational videos in terms of how these character traits play out.
This spot for Guinness opens as we see close up expressions of several guys on a basketball court, followed by a slow motion shot of a ball swishing through the net. Then the cameras pull back to reveal that six guys who are playing wheel chair basketball! We see them competing against one another, two of them from opposing teams crashing into each other as one lofts the ball in an attempt for a basket. We see near several misses, then one of the guys crashes and falls out of his chair, but pushes himself back into an upright position. Then this same guy proceeds to the other end of the court to make a score!
At the end of the game, we see five of the guys unfasten their safety belts and stand up, obviously able bodied. One of the able bodied guys says to his disabled friend, still in his wheelchair, "Next week, buddy!" As the friends make their way to the gym doors, one friend pats his buddy in the chair on the back; they head out for a celebration.
Working with my sales organization, I often tell my team to imitate the people that we are in front of, particularly in terms of speech and posture. If the client speaks quietly, then we speak quietly. If they have an aggressive handshake and fast speech, we do likewise. If they cross their legs, I coach my people to cross their legs, too. This spot for Guinness shows 'imitating the client' with a fresh new angle, but it's the same concept. These guys are obviously committed to their friendship with their disabled friend, as we are to our client. Dedication, loyalty, friendship...it's what establishes the true nature of our character, and it's what good sales organizations are made of.
